Now Accepting Applications for SIGA’s Indigenous Scholarship Awards Program

The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority (SIGA) takes pride in giving back to the First Nations communities we serve. This year, a total of $60,000 will be awarded to Indigenous post-secondary students through SIGA’s Indigenous Scholarship Awards Program.

Our principle Pimȃcihowin refers to making a living, and we understand that education and continuous learning are essential in doing so. We also know that training, upgrading, and education programs can be costly. That’s why we established our SIGA Indigenous Scholarship Awards Program.

The awards are distributed through three different scholarships: The SIGA Justice Paul Favel Indigenous Award for Outstanding Leadership in Community Involvement; the Shauna Bear Memorial Scholarship for Aspiring Indigenous Human Resources Professionals; and SIGA Scholarships for Saskatchewan First Nation Post-Secondary Students.

“I just thought I would throw my hat in the ring as I know that if I was awarded this scholarship, it would greatly decrease my financial burden related to education and allow me to pursue my passions. It was very exciting to hear the news that I had won the scholarship—it almost came as a shock,” said former SIGA scholarship recipient Julia Billingsley.
