September 12, 2025 – We wish to advise that our organization has been assessed a Notice of Violation (NOV) from the Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) and based on a balance of probabilities they have imposed an administrative penalty of $1.175 million. It should be noted that the penalty is based on administrative reporting requirements only. There is no money laundering, terrorist financing, or other financial crimes at SIGA’s properties. FINTRAC is the organization responsible for monitoring and investigating financial transactions to detect and prevent money laundering, terrorist financing, and other financial crimes.
The Proceeds of Crime (Money Laundering) and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) is the legislation that provides the legal framework for anti-money laundering and counter-terrorist financing in Canada. The PCMLTFA establishes reporting requirements for entities such as organizations with gaming devices that contain more than 50 machines in a single location. SIGA has a compliance program which is routinely audited by FINTRAC.
SIGA works with numerous regulatory bodies in the conduct of our business, and we place a high priority on supporting and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
SIGA does not agree with the violations found by FINTRAC, nor does it agree with the administrative penalties assessed. SIGA will be appealing both the finding of violations and the penalties assessed to the Federal Court.
